The story of SanJalisco begins with Anita and Vicente Padilla who migrated from Jalisco, Mexico in the 1940’s and settled in the Mission District of San Francisco. Together with their nine children, the Padilla’s founded two different restaurants, both in the Mission District. They operated these establishments from their 1950’s through the 1970’s, at which point Dolores “Josie” Padilla Reyes, one of their nine children and current owner of SanJalisco, took over in the 1970’s. Since 1988 Josie, the Reyes family, along with extended family, have worked hard to establish this restaurant, before known as Los Jarritos at its current location of 20th Street and South Van Ness Ave. To pay tribute to their Jalisco heritage vividly reflected in many of the dished served in the restaurant. In 2010, the family decided to change its name to SanJalisco. For several decades SanJalisco has been a cornerstone of the Mission District and is proud to serve the community, and be a Mexican comfort food favorite.
